There are thousands of astronomy books on the market and many of them will contain relevant information that can be used to supplement the course. However there are two text books that students may find particularly useful.

Magazines
Several magazines can be very useful, especially for recent developments and adverts for telescopes etc. There include many articles for the beginner. Yearly subscriptions work out cheaper. The two main UK ones are available from some newsagents or direct form the publisher:
