Meteors. There are two showers this month.
The Virginids meteor shower was first observed in 1908 and identified in 1948. It peaks on 12th April with expected hourly rates of 5 per hour. Although the rate is slow viewing conditions are favourable. Fireballs have previously been sighted and so it should be worthwhile looking for long slow meteors coming from Virgo in the southern sky.
The April Lyrid shower reaches its peak on 22nd March with a predicted rate of 10 meteors per hour. Unfortunately the Moon is just past first quarter and you will need to wait until it sets around 03:00 before a good view is possible.
