The Alpha Capricornids reach their peak on 2nd August. Although the rate is low with with only around 5 meteors per hour expected they are often impressive, being long slow and bright. |
|
Meteors...August is generally a good month for meteor showers with the highlight being the Perseids, viewable in the northeast in the constellation of Perseus. They peak around 12th/13th of the month at a rate of approximately 80 per hour. This year do any observing before midnight as later on in the night the rising gibbous moon will wash out any fainter meteors. |
