Mission statement

 

GEO has been set up to:

 

· Provide a world-class educational astronomy facility for all ages and abilities.

· Connect visitors to the wonders of the night sky.

· Record, using various techniques, images of celestial objects and events.

· Build up a database of astronomical images and make them available to users.

· Be involved in astronomical research projects, when practical and feasible.

· Naked eye and binocular tours of the night sky – constellation and object identification

· Telescopic sky tours using a variety of telescopes

· Solar - visual and imaging using a Hα telescope

· Solar - spectroscopy

· Lunar - visual and imaging

· Lunar and planetary spectroscopy

· Planetary - visual and imaging

· Wide field digital imaging of the night sky

· Viewing and imaging of deep sky objects – Messier, Caldwell, NGC, IC and others

· Stellar spectroscopy of bright stars

· Customised seminars and workshops on imaging and image processing

· Customised seminars, lectures and tutorials on astronomical topics
